The Hunger Games: What happens to Snow and Lucy after the Hunger Games?

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the prequel to The Hunger Games, explores the younger years of President Coriolanus Snow and his relationship with Lucy Gray Baird, the female tribute from District 12. After the Hunger Games, Snow is forced to become a Peacekeeper in District 12, far from the retribution he had hoped for. Despite initially being seen as a failure, Snow is comforted by reuniting with Lucy, and the two confront their growing feelings for each other. As Snow begins to understand Lucy's wild and defiant nature, he grows empathetic towards the Districts. However, Snow soon discovers that Sejanus, another Peacekeeper in District 12, is plotting to help District residents escape to the North. Snow secretly records the evidence and sends it back to Dr. Gaul. As chaos and uncertainty grow, Lucy decides to leave for the North anyway, and Snow chooses to join her in her escape. They journey together, but Snow's loyalty is tested when he stumbles upon the buried guns used to murder the Mayor's daughter. With the evidence in hand, Snow contemplates betraying Lucy to regain his family's honor. In a moment of uncertainty, Snow shoots into the trees hoping to kill Lucy. However, he is left unsure whether he actually hit her or not. Faced with limited time, Snow disposes of the guns and returns to District 12. He is transported back to the Capitol, where Dr. Gaul praises him for his information on Sejanus's plot. Snow accepts his position to train as an officer and is practically adopted by Sejanus's father, who remains unaware of Snow's involvement in his son's death. The novel concludes with an epilogue revealing that the Hunger Games were initially the idea of Dean Highbottom, Snow's principal. Snow poisons Highbottom in retaliation for his mistreatment. Snow goes on to become a Game Maker and implements his own ideas into the games. The fate of Lucy Gray remains unknown, as she is either dead in the forest or has successfully escaped Panem. In the upcoming film adaptation, Tom Blyth portrays a young Snow while Rachel Zegler plays Lucy Gray. Peter Dinklage plays Dean Highbottom, Viola Davis portrays Dr. Gaul, and Hunter Schafer is cast as Snow's cousin, Tigress. The film has received high praise, being called the best of The Hunger Games movies, with particular appreciation for the supporting characters. While the trailers and early reviews suggest a faithful adaptation, time will tell if there are any significant deviations from the original novel.
